I really wanted to like this book as it had a great write up in Mojo. I could not though, John Martyn is a complex human and this book scratches the surface. I found it contradictary and lacking in background detail. If you compare it to Dazzling Stranger then we learn little about the musical epoch Martyn was working in and the last fifteen years I felt were hurried over. Sorry about this I so wanted to like this book.

The book does what it says on the cover. It portrays a conflicted and creative character with clarity and without salaciosuness. It sent me back to my JM collection with renewed interest and focus.
For me, a must read.
